After obtaining a degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Montenegro, I continued my studies at the University of Oxford, where I pursued my interest in autism and applied linguistics. While doing research at Oxford, I came across many unexplored aspects of bilingualism and autism spectrum disorders. Therefore, my PhD research will be an investigation of certain aspects of pragmatics, cognition as well as autistic traits in bilingual children, with the aim to discover the effects that bilingualism truly has on language, cognitive and social development. I hope that my work will impact the upbringing of bilingual children and offer directions for future investigations of clinical and typically developing populations. I am grateful to the Gates Trust for offering me an opportunity to pursue my research interests, and I look forward to becoming a member of the Gates Scholar Network.
