Gates Cambridge is an international community of scholars bounded by a set of shared core values:
- Compassion – we are a community that cares deeply for others and supports each other
- Learning – we are dedicated to pursuing knowledge with curiosity in all areas and to learning from others
- Internationality – we are a global network which values people from different countries and cultures
- Community – we are an inclusive community committed to building a strong sense of belonging
- Change – we are dedicated to improving the lives of others and to driving positive social change
These form the acronym CLICC. These values reflect our commitment to a people-centred culture, global engagement and continuous improvement.

Their prominence demonstrates alignment with the Trust’s mission and strategic priorities, underscoring a culture that is inclusive, authentic and forward-looking.
These values are embedded in what we do and how we interact with each other and form the bedrock of our community.
They were developed in 2025 following consultation with our Scholars and staff that aimed to identify and visualise the core values most frequently affirmed by the Gates Cambridge community. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was used and the results were visualised through a word cloud, highlighting the values that define our shared identity.
