I spent my childhood exploring the sills along the Hudson River and the volcanic terrains of Taiwan, where I was captivated by minerals and bubbling fumaroles. Volcanic landscapes showcase the life of our planet, while decoding its history. My elemental curiosity drives me to understand magmatism, from source to eruption. As an undergraduate at Columbia University, I examined the 2018 eruption of Volcán de Fuego and identified magma injections just weeks prior, which may have triggered the eruption. As Euretta J. Kellett Fellow during my MPhil at Cambridge, I applied machine learning to investigate how minerals record information about crustal magmatic systems. I currently serve as Data Science Fellow at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and develop machine learning packages for probabilistic mineral classification. During my PhD, I will investigate the deep roots of magmatic systems to understand how magma is generated and transported, and how critical minerals are concentrated and mineralized. I am committed to interdisciplinary collaboration with fellow Gates Cambridge Scholars and local communities to develop solutions for monitoring volcanoes, mitigating hazards, and broadening access to scientific education and research.
