Biography

I hold a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nigeria, where I was introduced to the concept of energy efficiency and its significance for improving energy access. My early interest in energy-efficient building design took shape during my undergraduate research on the thermal performance of building materials specific to the Nigerian context. After my undergraduate degree and before starting my masters, I worked as a Research Associate at Reeddi Technologies, a clean technology company working to close the energy accessibility gap across underserved markets in Nigeria, where I researched energy needs and contributed to two patent registrations. Pursuing an MPhil in Energy Technologies at Cambridge gave me the opportunity to understand, in depth, existing energy systems and evaluation tools in advanced economies, and to explore lessons in energy transition that are transferable to developing countries like my own. Recognising the impact of energy research on buildings, especially in my country, I am committed to contributing original, human-centred research that advances our understanding of equitable residential energy policy. My PhD research focuses on equitable, data-driven approaches to residential energy policy, with particular attention to decarbonising the residential sector in ways that account for the needs of energy-vulnerable households. My overarching goal is to leverage this expertise to design efficient, affordable solutions that address energy access challenges and policy formulations for communities most in need. I am excited to be part of the innovative research environment of the EECI lab as a Gates Scholar, and through my research, I aspire to contribute positively to the energy landscape, both in Nigeria and beyond.
