I am a medievalist by training, with a research specialism in the reception of classical antiquity and the practice of commentary in the Middle Ages. My academic work has focused on medieval Dante commentary and related traditions of reception, including a new edition of Francesco da Buti’s commentary on the Commedia, a co-authored monograph on a fourteenth-century Florentine Life of Alexander the Great's version, and research on the later medieval reception of Dante in Tuscany. In 2019, I trained as a teacher and completed a PGCE in Classics. Shortly afterwards, I was appointed Head of Latin at a large comprehensive school in Stevenage. Under my leadership, Latin has since expanded across the school and is now taught from Year 7 through to Year 13. Between 2022 and 2025, I was part of the team delivering the Department for Education’s Latin Excellence Programme, supporting the introduction and growth of Latin in state schools nationally. I currently hold a leadership position within a London-based teacher training provider, contributing to the development of new teachers and to the long-term sustainability of subject provision. My move from academia into teaching reflects a deliberate commitment to educational impact. I am particularly motivated by the belief that pupils from non-traditional and disadvantaged backgrounds should have access to classical languages and literature at a high intellectual level. My academic training continues to inform my teaching, enabling me to connect advanced scholarship with classroom practice. This approach seeks to promote educational opportunity and to deliver lasting benefit through learning, access, and cultural enrichment.
