I am a medievalist by training, with a research specialism in the reception of classical antiquity and the practice of commentary in the Middle Ages. My academic work explored how classical texts were transmitted, interpreted, and reimagined through medieval traditions of scholarship, including a new edition of Francesco da Buti’s commentary on Dante’s 'Commedia', a co-authored monograph on a fourteenth-century Florentine version of the 'Life of Alexander the Great', and research into the later medieval reception of Dante in Tuscany. My transition from academia into education was a natural extension of this interest in the transmission and accessibility of classical knowledge. In 2019, I completed a PGCE in Classics, motivated by the belief that the intellectual richness of the ancient world should be available to a wider and more diverse range of pupils. Shortly afterwards, I was appointed Head of Latin at a large comprehensive school in Stevenage, where I developed and expanded Latin provision from Year 7 through to Year 13, establishing the subject as a thriving part of the curriculum. Between 2022 and 2025, I was part of the team delivering the Department for Education’s Latin Excellence Programme, supporting the introduction and growth of Latin in state schools across England. I am now Trust Lead for Latin within a London-based multi-academy trust, where I work across schools to support subject leadership, strengthen curriculum development, coach and develop teachers, and promote excellent outcomes in Latin. Alongside this, I contribute to initial teacher education, supporting the training and development of new Classics teachers and the long-term sustainability of subject provision. My work is driven by a commitment to ensuring that pupils from all backgrounds have access to an ambitious and intellectually rigorous classical education. My academic training continues to shape my teaching and leadership, allowing me to connect scholarship with classroom practice and to bridge the worlds of research, curriculum development, and educational opportunity.
