Gates 25@25 films launch

A series of 25 short films celebrating the ripple effect of Gates Cambridge over 25 years has been launched.

Twenty-five Gates Cambridge Scholars are taking part in a 25th anniversary tribute on film, talking about the impactful work they are doing around the world.

The 25@25 film series has just launched and the short videos are being posted across Gates Cambridge’s social media channels. Those taking part include Scholars from the first years of the programme as well as current Scholars. They represent a broad range of subject and sector areas and geographic locations and show the ‘ripple effect’ that the scholarship has had as Scholars have gone out into the world and sought to change it.

The films will run until the end of the year and will culminate in a compilation video. Scholars who have recorded videos include Isaac Holeman[2013] on his hydrogen energy start-up, Alejandro Rivera Rivera [2015] on how his architecture firm in Guatemala is promoting sustainable, green values, Eva-Maria Hempe [2007] on her work for technology company Nvidia, Alberto Borges [2022] from Kenya on his conservation work and astronaut Kayla Barron [2010].

The first two videos – of astronomer Professor Allison Strom [2010] and author Anna Malaika Tubbs [2017] – are now up and more will be posted weekly on a Thursday on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook.  Anna Malaika’s new book, Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden from Us, is out this week in the US.  It is described as “the story of the United States from a new perspective: one where the people who shaped this country – who have been oppressed and whose contributions have been denied – are at the centre, reminding us that we can restore what has been strategically kept from us”.

*Please follow and share the videos on your social platforms.
