Scholar Mamta Thangaraj has just taken up office as a Gates Cambridge Trustee.
I feel privileged to give back to the Gates Cambridge community. I know from experience that when we invest in exceptional people, we change communities, industries, and make the world think of the art of the possible.

Gates Cambridge is delighted to welcome Mamta Thangaraj as its new Trustee.
Mamta, who is Director of Data Strategy at the British semiconductor and software design company Arm and a Gates Cambridge Alumna, took office in October, stepping into the shoes of fellow alumna Julia Fan Li [2008] whose term on the Board ended this year.
Mamta has been at Arm since 2017 when she was an Engineering Capacity Manager and has held several leadership roles before her current one, including Director of Capacity Management and Director of Operations Research and Decision Analytics. Her current role involves shaping the company’s data strategy for the future.
Before Arm, Mamta held management roles at Nokia and EPSRC. She has also held various fellowship roles, including a research fellowship at Wolfson College and a teaching fellowship at Cambridge’s Nano Doctoral Training Centre. In addition Mamta was Development Officer at Cambridge University Entrepreneurs.
Mamta [2003] did her PhD in Semiconductor Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar. She was a member of the Gates Cambridge Scholars’ Council while in residence and later became the Co-Chair of the Gates Cambridge Alumni Association.
Professor Eilís Ferran, Provost of Gates Cambridge, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mamta to the Gates Cambridge team and wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Julia Fan Li for her excellent service to the Scholar community. Mamta’s knowledge of leadership roles in industry and her long experience of giving back to the Gates Cambridge community will be enormously important for the Trust in the next years.”
Mamta stated: “I feel privileged to give back to the Gates Cambridge community. I know from experience that when we invest in exceptional people, we change communities, industries, and make the world think of the art of the possible.”
