New executive role for Ramit Debnath

Dr Ramit Debnath has been appointed Executive Director of the Centre for Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence following his tenure as Deputy Director. 

Ramit has played a key role in shaping CHIA as Deputy Director...and brings outstanding interdisciplinary vision and energy to advancing human-inspired AI for global good.

Dr Ramit Debnath has been appointed Executive Director of the Centre for Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence [CHIA].

Ramit [2018] is Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge. He specialises in human-centric AI for climate and sustainability, integrating computational social science with systems thinking. He leads the Cambridge Collective Intelligence & Design group and climaTRACES lab [with fellow Gates Cambridge Scholar Kamiar Mohaddes], holds visiting academic roles at Caltech and Stanford and advises the UK Government’s Department for Work and Pensions as a member of the Methods Advisor Group (MAG).

In his new role, Ramit will help advance CHIA’s mission by leading interdisciplinary initiatives, building strategic partnerships, strengthening its senior and wider team’s ability to delivering on strategic priorities and operations and advancing public engagement on ethical and equitable AI solutions for global challenges.

CHIA Director Dr Anna Korhonen says: “Ramit has played a key role in shaping CHIA as Deputy Director, and I’m delighted he is stepping into the role of Executive Director. This appointment strengthens our leadership team at an exciting time for the Centre. Ramit brings outstanding interdisciplinary vision and energy to advancing human-inspired AI for global good.”

CHIA’s founding principle is to advance AI for the benefit of humanity by combining human and machine intelligence. CHIA drives interdisciplinary research, educates future AI scientists and partners with academic, industrial and other organisations to deliver real-world impact through human-inspired AI.
